↓ ENTRY POINT
POLICE
Reports to the police will usually come through 101, 999, or through a local police station. In recent cases the police will take the person reporting to the SARC if that’s what they want.
SARC
The SARC will offer a forensic exam, emotional, medical and practical care. They will refer onto the ISVA service and other health and support services. They can provide counselling for recent attacks.
INDEPENDENT SEXUAL VIOLENCE ADVISOR (ISVA)
The ISVAs provide support throughout the reporting process. If a case goes forward they will offer support throughout the case. If the case does not go forward they will provide 8 weeks of support. They will signpost and refer to ongoing support.
ONGOING SUPPORT
This can be provided through:
- Helplines
- Counselling
- Group work
- Online forums
- E-mail support
Recent sexual violence without reporting

SARC
The SARC will offer a forensic exam, emotional, medical and practical care. They can refer onto the ISVA service and other health and support services. They can provide counselling for recent attacks. They will not force someone to report the attack to the police.
INDEPENDENT SEXUAL VIOLENCE ADVISOR (ISVA)
The ISVAs can provide 8 weeks of support to someone not going through the criminal justice process. They will signpost and refer to ongoing support.
ONGOING SUPPORT
This can be provided through:
- Helplines
- Counselling
- Group work
- Online forums
- E-mail support
POSSIBLE REPORTING
The SARC can store forensic evidence in case you wish to report at a later date. The SARC and Crimestoppers can all submit anonymous reports of sexual violence to the police if requested to do so by service users.
