We offer confidential specialist support to survivors of rape, sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse.
We offer the following specialist support;
- specialist emotional support
- specialist trauma interventions
- counselling
- telephone helpline
- email support service
- practical support, advocacy
- support to report to the police
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
We support people who live in Devon and Torbay (but not Plymouth).
All of our support is available for those aged 13 and over. We also offer support to the families, friends and partners of those affected by sexual violence by phone and email only. We support people whether the sexual violence they experienced happened recently or many years ago.
We respect the choices that people make about whether to report to the police or not and do not place pressure on anyone to do so. If people want to know about the process of reporting or want assistance to do this, we will help but the choice always remains with our service users.
All of our staff and volunteers are female.
We have 14 paid workers with a variety of skills and experience. All are very knowledgeable about the impacts of childhood sexual abuse, rape or sexual assault and all have skills and qualifications in working with trauma. Our staff team includes counsellors, specialist support workers and trauma practitioners. We have 22 volunteers who have all completed a comprehensive national qualification in sexual violence support work. Volunteers staff our helpline and email support services and do some direct work too, depending on their skills and background. Both staff and volunteers have effective support structures including regular group meetings, training and internal supervision.
The organisation meets the Rape Crisis England and Wales National Standards which demand a high level of governance, safety and effectiveness across all workers and volunteers.
