First Light – Devon & Cornwall ISVA Services

First Light – Devon & Cornwall Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA) Services provides support and advocacy for victims of recent and non-recent sexual violence or abuse.

The ISVA Service provides independent support to:

  • People who have reported sexual violence or abuse to the police
  • People who are thinking of reporting the incident to the police, but wish to find out more information about their reporting options

If you have reported the incident to the Police or have been supported at a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), they will offer you a referral into the ISVA service. You can also self-refer into our service.  The ISVA service is only available to people to have already reported to the police or are looking for advice on how to report to the police or provide anonymous information.

ISVAs will support clients throughout the criminal justice process, can signpost to specialist organisations or support, or simply provide a safe place to listen to and support you.

Who do you work with?

Devon and Cornwall ISVA service works with Devon & Cornwall SARCs, Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, local communities, local councils, hospitals and charitable organisations.

Gender: All

Age: All

Location: Various locations across Devon & Cornwall

Case type: Any incident relating to sexual violence or abuse, whether the incident was recent and non-recent.

“First Light is independent of any agency so you do not have to worry about the Police or any other organisation or person (including your loved ones) finding out about your abuse or assault. Neither do you have to have first reported to the Police to access our services. Our staff will treat anything you say to them in confidence.  There are a number of circumstances when the law requires us to share information without your consent.  Wherever possible, we will inform you when we do.”

No.  We are independent from the Police, however, if you are under 18 we will need to make a referral into the Safeguarding Team and we cannot guarantee anonymity from the Police.
